Meanwhile, ventriloquist Wayne Garland and his “dummy” Charlie Chucks crack hood jokes about food stamps and Medicaid — a routine refined during performances around New York. In Billboard, Nelson George gave it faint praise, writing “it was a nice attempt at recorded comedy.”
